A couple of days ago my colleague , Sam, borrowed my Sony Bloggie to do some short interviews with some people in Microsoft for a project she’s working on. Something went horribly wrong and the SD card became unreadable…not good. I set to work looking for a bit of software to recover the situation only to find that there is a plethora of stuff to do the job. Much of it purports to be free and is not, much of it plainly just doesn’t work. Some of it is nice and user friendly with good GUIs and some of it is command line. So I thought I’d share what I found and by posting to my blog I’ll be able to find it in the future.
The best application I came across was PhotoRec a command line tool which scanned the card quickly and retrieved all the photo’s from the card. It didn’t do well with the video files alas but that could have been a quirk of what was deleted rather than what was found. If you need a step by step guide on using the software there’s one here.
